October 2015 Schedules

October 2015 Schedules

Planking at Philly Dance FitnessIt’s starting to feel like fall, so we’re going to warm up our studios with even more classes! We’ve got two additions to the schedule plus several exciting workshops. Here’s what’s happening:

New Barre and Toning Classes

For those of you seeking more daytime options, we’re adding a toning class on Sundays and another section of Barre Fit on Tuesdays. Both will be held at our Rittenhouse location, 1624 South St.

Pilates Barre Fit

Redefine your body, improve your posture and push your muscles to the max in this power-packed barre workout. As in our Monday night Barre Fit class, you’ll head to the barre after a cardio warm-up for isometric exercises targeting the glutes, quads, hamstrings, inner thighs, calves and abs. But the second half of the class will devote more attention to the core, including both standing and classical mat Pilates. No prior knowledge of Pilates or ballet movements is needed to build strength, stamina and flexibility in this unique program.

  • Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. with Deb

Def Toned

Strengthen and sculpt your abs and lower body in this challenging workout. Warm up with a combination of dance (of course) and a little kickboxing, then progress through a series of muscle-defining exercises using your own body weight and circular resistance bands. Class will also incorporate Pilates and Yoga movements targeting the core. No need to bring anything unless you’d like to use your own mat; resistance bands and any other equipment will be provided at the studio.

  • Sundays at 12 p.m. with Michelle, starting Oct. 11

In addition to these new classes, we’re continuing the four classes we added last month (Sunday Bollywood Blast, Wednesday lunchtime Cardio Pop, Thursday Jazz Tech and Frisky Friday striptease aerobics.) Find the full list of classes on the weekly schedule.

Sunday Bollywood Time Change

Please note that our new section of Bollywood Blast will remain on Sundays, however it will now be earlier in the morning at 9 a.m. So if you’re awake, come over to 1624 South St. to jumpstart your day with some high-energy Indian dance moves set to an upbeat playlist featuring both Hindi and hip-hop songs.

Discount Passes for Pointe and Tap

While most of our programs focus on fun and fitness, we’ve also got a few classes for those looking to improve their technique in a supportive, small group environment. This month, we’re highlighting both our Tuesday Beginner Tap Technique and Friday Pointe Basics. Sign up for either of these programs and get an entire class FREE!!

  • Tap Technique (Beginners)
    • Tuesdays from 8:15 p.m. to 8:55 p.m. with Sherrilyn at Midtown (1301 Locust St. 2nd floor)
    • Absolutely no experience required, tap shoes recommended
  • “Back to Basics” Pointe (for those new to pointe or revisiting it)
    • Fridays at 7:30 p.m. with Beverly at Midtown
    • Pointe shoes welcome but not at all necessary. (Regular Pointe classes are also still offered on Saturdays and Mondays).

Workshop Mania

We’re making up for taking a short break from workshops in the last two months by giving you multiple options this October. Whether you can’t get enough boy band music or you’re curious about trying a new form of dance, we’ve got you covered…

Battle of the Boys: 2015 Edition

Calling all boy band fans for 90 minutes of glorious, over-the-top dance fun! If you’re a sucker for a catchy hook harmonized by a group of fresh-faced boys, join us to get down to chart-toppers from the Jonas Brothers, One Direction, the Wanted, 5 Seconds of Summer and more. In addition to these newer groups, we’ll also feature songs from some of the most famous boy bands in history, from Boyz II Men to N’SYNC.

  • Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Midtown
  • Purchase tickets here. $25 but you can save $5 by purchasing early bird tickets through Oct. 4.

Hoop Dancing Workshop

Add some new dance moves to your repertoire in this hooptacular workshop. You may have attempted to spin a hula hoop around your waist, but we’ll show you how much more artistic movement you can do with this simple prop. In addition to basic “around the waist” hooping, you’ll learn a variety of fundamental off-the-body isolations, transitional moves suitable for total beginners as well as intermediate hoopers and even a short routine. A minimum of six students will be required to hold the workshop, so if you know you want to come, please sign up sooner than later so we know if we have enough interest.

  • Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • Purchase tickets here: $25 BUT save $5 by purchasing through Oct. 4.

Both workshops will be held at our Midtown location, 1301 Locust St., 2nd floor. We strongly encourage pre-registration as workshops sometimes sell out. Members receive an additional $5 off the ticket price; no coupon code required as long as you log into your account prior to checking out online.
