Calling all musical theater junkies who love the limelight!
We had so much fun co-producing a Broadway-themed burlesque variety show last fall that we’re doing it again this spring. As with the first production, we’re reserving stage time for student routines. This go-round, we’re putting together THREE fabulous numbers, so whether you’re into Tap, Jazz or Burlesque (or all of the above!), we’ve got the perfect performance series for you!
Lee-Ann will be teaching a jazzy, sex-ified interpretation of the classic “Step in Time” from Mary Poppins. Deb’s dusting off a few disco moves for a saucy, sequin-filled burlesque routine to “Sex is in the Heel” from Kinky Boots. And Sherrilyn will be recreating the high-energy tap opening to 42 Street filled with time steps, hop shuffles, fast flaps, funky arms and more.
All three finished pieces will be performed at the “Take It Off Broadway” show, a mix of burlesque, dance and drag, held at the Ruba Club on March 10.
No prior musical theater experience required to participate. The jazz and burlesque choreography is designed so that dancers of all levels can shine, though participants in the tap routine should have some tap background. For the burlesque routine, we’ll be stripping off jackets and other items depending on each dancer’s comfort level — so no need to worry about getting down to pasties unless you want to! The jazz and tap routine won’t involve any clothing removal.
Space is limited and we’ll need extra time to coordinate costumes, so please pre-register by early February if you’d like to join us in strutting your stuff onstage!
