July Schedule Notes

July Schedule Notes

Aside from the heat, July is one of our favorite months because it’s that time of year when we get hundreds of people to come together in celebration of National Dance Day. So if you haven’t already, please mark your calendars for Saturday, July 25 because this is one massive dance party that you don’t want to miss! Click here to see the schedule of more than 20 FREE dance workshops all around the city as well as the $5 evening dance party on Rittenhouse Square. New this year, we’re also leading a free Dance Day preview at the Oval on July 19. Please join us for both and help us spread the word by telling all your friends!!

Even though we’re busier than ever with these major events, we also recognize that many of our students take advantage of the summertime to go off on long vacations or spend weekends at the shore. For that reason, we will be putting three of our smaller classes on a short “summer break,” and experimenting with a few other programs in the interim:

On Break: Zumba, Striptease and Tap Tonic

Don’t worry, we’re not putting all of our Zumba classes on break, just one: Instructor Lehla will be taking a mission trip to Cameroon shortly, so we’re taking her 8:15 p.m. Tuesday class in Midtown off the schedule for now. (Other instructors will fill in to keep her Friday class going.) All other Zumba classes will continue as usual.

Likewise, Frisky Friday striptease and Tuesday night Tap Tonic will be on hiatus, returning in the fall. We will continue to offer striptease classes upon request for bachelorette parties and private groups, and you can also catch a special striptease workshop at Dance Day. Tappers will also still find class on Thursdays with Pam, and if there’s enough interest we’re planning to offer a NEW section of Tap Technique on Tuesday nights. Read on…

More Bootcamp and Tap Technique; FierceFUNk Hip-Hop Returns

Since we won’t have Zumba at Midtown on Tuesdays this month, Sherrilyn will teach a section of Dance Party Boot Camp at 7:15 p.m. to satisfy all of our cardio junkies out there. This will take the place of the current Tap Tonic class for now. However, since we’ve worked so hard to promote tap this past year, we’d like to continue offering it twice a week. So we’re going to test out a new section of Tap Technique on Tuesdays at 8:15 p.m., this one geared toward beginners.

Students will warm-up with a mini Tap Tonic cardio workout, then launch into the basics to build a strong tap foundation. Absolutely no prior tap experience necessary. As with our Thursday technique class, we’re offering a deal for students who pre-register for the month: pay in advance and get an entire class FREE! And, since we’ll have two technique sections this month, students can make-up a missed class within the month at the other section.

Hip-hop fans will also be happy to know that Fierce FUNk is back on the schedule! Join Maya on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in our Rittenhouse location for this energizing progressive choreography program. The movements are simple and natural, combining street style funk with contemporary hip-hop for an accessible, inspiring, fun and complete workout that anyone can do.

This takes the place of the hip-hop class that Angela had been teaching. Unfortunately for us, Angela will be leaving to devote her full attention to a new job directing the drama program at a South Jersey high school. Many of you have taken Angela’s Modern, Hip-Hop, Tap or Ballet classes over the past two and a half years. We will miss her, but wish her the best in her new gig. And we will do our part to keep her classes going strong: In addition to Maya, new instructor Evan will take over her Modern class, with some help from Pam in the coming weeks while he’s on vacation.

Class Reductions on July 4 Weekend

Since Independence Day is officially observed on Friday, July 3, we will NOT have class that day or Saturday, July 4. However, we will have all classes as usual on Sunday, July 5. We hope you enjoy the long weekend! We do not anticipate any other class cancelations this month.
