January Schedules

Yee-haw 2015!! We can’t wait to dance into the New Year with you! We’ve got a fully loaded schedule coming your way, with a new Contemporary Ballet Technique class as well as the return of Bollywood Blast, Pilates and Tuesday Cardio Pop, plus all of your old favorites. Only one existing program changes times this month, read on for the details:

New or Back in Action

Contemporary Ballet Technique

In addition to ballet basics, this new program is the perfect opportunity to better understand the technique behind some of the movements you might do in our other jazz or modern classes. Expect a fusion of barre technique with contemporary, lyrical and jazz center and progressive exercises. No prior dance or ballet experience necessary at all.

  • Mondays at 8 p.m. with Angela
  • Midtown, 1301 Locust St., 2nd Floor

Bollywood Blast
Our high energy Indian dance fitness class is back from winter break! We take a traditional North Indian folk dance, add some hip-hop moves, a little Bollywood flavor and relentlessly upbeat music. The result: one seriously fun, off-the-chain workout. If Hindi music makes you want to move or you’ve daydreamed of dancing in a huge Bollywood number, now’s your chance!

  • Wednesdays at 8 p.m. with Antima
  • Rittenhouse, 1624 South St.

Cardio Pop
Our double-dose of weekly Cardio Pop returns! Sweat with Alyssa S. on Tuesday nights and Timaree on Thursdays in this high-octane class. With the latest upbeat songs to keep you going, maybe you won’t even notice how hard you’re working. Some routines are pure cardio, others focus on strengthening and sculpting. Either way, you’re guaranteed to feel the burn.

  • Tuesdays at 8:15 p.m. (also continuing on Thursdays at 7:15 p.m.)
  • Both at Midtown, 1301 Locust St., 2nd Floor

Yes, it’s easy to hide under heavy sweaters in the winter, but it’s always a good time to work on your abs, and Pilates is one of the best ways to get tangible results. Cinch your core — and more — in this low-impact, but still killer, class.

  • Sundays at noon
  • Rittenhouse, 1624 South St.

African Jazz Time Change

Starting in January, Sherrilyn’s African Jazz class moves to Wednesday nights in Midtown at 7:30 p.m. We apologize if this causes any inconvenience, but we hope this will actually allow more students to take advantage of this dynamic blend of modern jazz and west African dance technique. Be prepared for kicks, jumps, spins and high energy torso and arm movements as you take jazz back to its African roots and forward through cultural styles. Every muscle in your body will get a workout as you dance to invigorating drumming from Africa, pop hits and even a couple of uptempo Broadway numbers.
  • Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.
  • Midtown, 1301 Locust St., 2nd Floor
While we’ve highlighted what’s changed, we also still have all your other favorites from 2014, from Zumba to Impact Jazz to Hip-Hop (Caribbean-style, FierceFUNk and all sorts of other funky flavors) to Tap Tonic and more. Speaking of tap, we’re also hoping to bring back our Semi-Private Tap Technique as well, but we need to hear from interested tappers first. Please email us if you’re interested in participating and we’ll set the restart date accordingly!
As always, find the full list of classes on our schedule page. Also, please check the calendar view at the bottom of the page for notes about substitutes and any closures due to special events or weather emergencies. For example, while there are no holidays this month, we will have a class reduction at Midtown on Tuesday, January 13, due to a special event. We will still have Dance Party Boot Camp that night, but it will start a half hour later than usual, and no bellydance or Cardio Pop.
We’re also excited to announce that the dance floor will be redone at our South Philly location at the end of the month. We should still be able to have class in the smaller front studio during that week, but if anything changes we will make sure to post it on our calendar, newsletter and social media channels.
Okay, 2015 — Let’s work it, shake it, move it, DANCE!!!
