24 Sep Battle of the Boys: 2015 Edition
We realize that our love for boy band music should have faded as we got older and expanded our musical horizons. But we’re still suckers for a catchy hook harmonized by a group of fresh-faced boys, and we’re hoping some of you might feel the same way.
It’s been three (!!) years since we premiered our “Battle of Boys” workshop featuring some of the most famous boy bands in history, from the quintessential Jackson 5 to the Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men, 112, B2K and more. This time, we’re focusing on some of the newer groups on the scene. Think Jonas Brothers, One Direction, the Wanted, 5 Seconds of Summer and so forth. We may even throw in a little Maroon 5, Coldplay and OneRepublic, even though technically those groups may not qualify as boy bands because the members are older and not all of them sing. If we get really ambitious, we’ll add a few routines to some of the newest hit-makers (AJR, After Romeo, District 3, Emblem 3, Before You Exit, R5, Midnight Red, Union J, the Vamps…tell us your requests because we need more excuses to learn about these newbies by watching…er, “researching” their music videos). And of course, we’ll also make sure to include a few old favorites from the 90s and earlier.
No need to have any dance background for this workshop — but in boy-band performance tradition, lots of enthusiasm and, of course, lip-syncing are highly encouraged. Many of the pop and hip-hop routines will be easy to follow, and the instructors will break down the moves to longer combinations so you’ll have time to practice before battling it out “on stage.” So if you’re ready for 90 minutes of glorious, over-the-top dance fun, grab your tickets now because space will be limited to make sure everyone has room to move! Ages 13 and up.
