Step up to the barre in this absolute beginner program.

If you’ve always been intrigued by ballet but never had the chance to take classes as a kid, we’ve got the perfect introductory program to help you stock your “ballet toolbox.” Learn all the fundamentals of ballet: positions, vocabulary, foundational steps, placement, musicality and more.

This 50-minute class serves as a precursor to our Beginner Ballet I program, building up an understanding and practice of classical ballet in a fun and straightforward approach. Like our longer ballet classes, you’ll be focusing on technique rather than fitness — though you might still get a bit of a lower body workout in the process!

Since this is a shorter class, it’s the same price as our other 50-minute programs: $13 drop-in, one punch on a class card or free for Philly Dance Fitness Unlimited & Ballet Members. That means anyone can drop-in, anytime!


  • Cost: $13 drop-in or one punch on a class card for non-members; FREE for members.
  • Please wear tights or form-fitting leggings/pants, and ballet slippers or socks.

If you like our Ballet Basics program, you may also wish to check out our longer Ballet classes, Pointe and Pre-Pointe small-group sessions or our Barre classes (BalletEXTREME and Barre Fit), which combine ballet, core work and strength conditioning into a workout that anyone, regardless of dance experience, can do.
