August Schedule Notes

August Schedule Notes

We closed July with another amazing Philadelphia Dance Day and now we’re taking a little break from special events and workshops to gear up for the fall. The schedule isn’t changing that much in August — we’re experimenting with a new African dance program and Pilates will be going on a short “summer break;” other than that, you can find all of your usual favorites on our weekly line-up, including the new beginner tap technique program. We’re also running a special promotion all month long to highlight our jazz and lyrical classes. Read on for the details…

NEW African Dance Revolution

Explore the dance styles of Africa and the Caribbean in this new, easy-to-follow, high-octane program led by certified ADR instructor Lehla Olson. Expect a musical blend of African rumba, tropical, Jamaican, traditional African rhythms and hiphop, all paired with simple, high energy steps. This will take the place of our current African Jazz class. As in that class, be prepared for a full-body workout as you kick, jump and spin through heart-pumping cardio routines. The main difference is that you won’t integrate as much jazz and some of the choreography will be less complex. However, fans of Sherrilyn’s African Jazz can still find elements of that class on Monday nights as she will be taking over Impact Jazz for a little while. As usual with that class, students will learn progressive jazz choreography based on various styles of music, from Broadway to modern jazz to African. Check our Facebook page for updates on the theme of the week.

  • Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. with Lehla
  • Midtown location (1301 Locust St., 2nd Floor)
  • $12 drop in, one punch on a class card, or FREE for members

Beginner Tap Technique and Monthly Discount Passes

We’re so excited to see new dancers coming out to learn tap that we’re continuing our new beginner technique program on Tuesday nights. Students will warm-up with a mini Tap Tonic cardio workout, then launch into the basics to build a strong tap foundation. Absolutely no prior tap experience necessary. Pre-register for the month, whether the Tuesday beginner section or the Thursday advanced beginners/intermediate section, and get an entire class FREE. Those who purchase the deal may make up a missed class within the month at the other section.

  • Tuesdays (Beginners) from 8:15 p.m. to 8:55 p.m. OR
  • Thursdays (Advanced Beginner/Intermediate) from 5:30 p.m. to 6:10 p.m.
  • Where: Midtown — 1301 Locust St., 2nd floor (above NEST)
  • Cost: $10 drop in OR get an entire class FREE by pre-registering for the month!

Pilates on Break; Bootcamp and Fierce FUNk Continue

Since attendance has understandably slowed in the summer, Pilates will be going on “summer break” this month. Likewise, striptease will remain on break until the fall (though we continue to offer striptease classes upon request for bachelorette parties and private groups).

But, we will be continuing the classes that were added last month: In addition to the beginner tap technique, we have a newer Dance Party Boot Camp at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesdays (also on Mondays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m.) as well as Fierce FUNk hip-hop on Wednesdays at 6 p.m.

Summer Spotlight: $5 Jazz and Modern

We’re “jazzing up” the last full month of summer with $5 drop-in specials on Impact Jazz, Modern Dance Fitness and Jazz Tech  That’s less than the cost of a class card punch, so save your cards for later and take advantage of this incredible deal! Read more about it here.
