We had such an enthusiastic response to our inaugural pre-pointe workshop that we’re continuing with two more installments.
This 40-minute course is designed for dancers who have experience with ballet but have never done pointe work or would like to revisit it. Ballet instructor Beverly Holskin will discuss the construction of the pointe shoe as well as how to find the right shoe for you, correctly prepare the shoe and tie the ribbons. After that, you’ll dive into special exercises designed to strengthen your feet and ankles. You’ll learn to use your weight and energy so that you can roll up and down on pointe with delicate strength and ease. Exercises will be done in regular “soft” ballet slippers, but bring pointe shoes if you already have them. The class is specifically designed to allow dancers to work at their own pace, whether using the exercises as an additional ballet conditioning tool or eventually graduating to pointe.
- When: Saturday, Nov. 17 from 12:15 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. (Please attend the preceding Beg Ballet II class or warm up on your own beforehand).
- Where: Major Moment Studio, 1624 South St.
- Cost: $5 for members, $8 for non-members
- Register: Because this workshop requires prior ballet experience, we ask that you email us to enroll or speak directly to Beverly. We will send you the information you need to register online or in person.
The next pre-pointe workshop will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15 – same time and place.
