Philly Dance Fitness – can you handle this?

It’s about to get crazy and maybe even a little naughty at our May workshop spotlighting the one and only Beyonce Knowles.

Back in February, we logged onto Facebook after Beyonce performed at the Superbowl half time show to see if anyone else had the urge to dance after watching the pop diva own that enormous stage in all her new-mommy glory. More than 50 of you liked our post asking if anyone would be interested in a Beyonce-themed workshop. It took a few months to plan, but here you have it, just in time to get pumped for her Philadelphia concert in July!

Join all-star trio Angela, Maya and Deborah for 90 minutes of nonstop hip rolling, booty shaking, chest pumping, heart thumping hip-hop. We don’t even pretend to be nearly as bootylicious as the real Destiny’s Child, but we’ll do our best to teach you some of their trademark moves.

The workshop begins with follow-the-leader routines set to D.C. and Beyonce hits past and present, including “Baby Boy,” “Beautiful Liar,” and “End of Time.” After warming up, you’ll learn a few longer combinations, including a modified version of Beyonce’s steamy moves in “Dance For You” and “Get Me Bodied.” Don’t worry if you’re rusty on your body rolls — we’ll break down the more complex choreography so that everyone can master it. Singing along is fine – as long as you sound as good as Beyonce. (Kidding!)

Ages 13 and up. Space is limited to make sure everyone has room to dance. So if you think you’re ready for this jelly, get your tickets now because this workshop just might sell out.

  • When: Saturday, May 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Where: The Arts Parlor, 1170 S. Broad St.
  • Cost: $15 until May 11, then $20. (Members, click here for a discounted rate). Due to the extended preparation required for workshops, non-members may not apply gift certificates toward tickets.
  • Wear: Comfortable workout attire and athletic shoes or dance sneakers. Bonus points (and maybe even an actual prize) if you come dressed in a long sleeve leotard with high boots or other Beyonce-inspired blingy outfit.
